Psion WORKABOUT Pro with Agrident AIR200 EID Reader

It is a great shame but unfortunately the Agrident AIR200 and AIR300 EID readers that made the psion so good with reading sheep EID Tags is no alonger in production with Agrident. Although Psions are available without the EID reader they are farely useless. Without the EID reader the psion is slowly being replaced by the Android phone and Tablet. Lucky for us we are well down the road with FarmIT Mobile for Android, however finding a suitable android device with an EID reader is proving to be quite a challange.

The Psion WORKABOUT Pro fitted with the Agrident AIR200 EID reader offers a very flexible solution for data collection and viewing in the field. Unlike most hand held EID readers the Psion provides you with breeding information at your finger tips whilst out and about and critically when the animal is in front of you. This allows for a quick look at the data before you take that breeding decision. Running FarmIT Mobile on the Windows Mobile or CE operating systems, provides us with literally a PC in our hand!

Fitted with an Agrident AIR200 EID reader, it can be used to read EID and record data for common daily EID tasks. In addition, it allows you to gather notes, view and record details on virtually any aspect of your animals and show you this historical information on-screen, allowing you to make ‘on the spot’ management decisions about an animal based on its history.

The FarmIT Mobile software running on the Psion provides the functionality for cattle and sheep management with or without EID. The reader may be used to record cattle calving, sheep lambing, fostering, breeding traits, movements, weighing etc. Routines such as lambing may be configured to collect breeding traits or even tailored specifically to your needs to record advanced details in a continuous routine. In addition, management information on animals can be uploaded onto the Psion, allowing you to perform tasks such as drafting, based on information on the screen.

If you are someone who wants to record that little bit more and wishes to see the information while out in the field, the Psion Workabout Pro is definately the one for you.

The Agrident AIR200 and AIR300

The Agrident AIR200 and AIR300 eid heads are specifically designed EID readers for the Psion Workabout Pro (they bolt into it!). This turns the Workabout Pro into an EID reader. Read range is good and the readers support all tag formats. The AIR300 replaced the AIR200 to free up the internal slot in the psion to allow other boards.

FarmIT Mobile

The FarmIT Mobile software running on the Psion provides the functionality for cattle and sheep management with or without EID. The reader may be used to record cattle calving, sheep lambing, fostering, breeding traits, weighing etc. and critically displays historical information about the animal at the click of a button. Unlike most of the readers, we are able to provide greater flexibility with the Psion. Routines such as lambing may even be configured to collect breeding traits or even tailored specifically to your needs.

Collecting and Validating Advanced Information

A typical use is for advanced collection of lambing data with EID (Electronic ear tags). You can go well beyond the normal lambing routine which may record basic information, for example, ewe number and lamb number, sex, breed etc. and include advanced data such as lamb presentation, weights, ewe milking scores, mothering instinct, genetic defects and other breeding traits in a continuous routine with options and data validation. You may also record still born animals and where possible identify and record problems and their causes.

With FarmIT 3000 the flexibility of the system allows for multiple units to be used simultaneously on the farm with multiple shepherds or lambing staff. Data is sychronised upon the return of the workabout pro to the main computer, where records are updated, lambs created etc.
