Flock Improvement Using FarmIT 3000 And EID

Tim was introduced to FarmIT 3000 in June 2005, via ADAS and the UK EID evaluation trial. Tim had been on the trial for over 12 months but the trial systems did not perform well. In June we were approached by ADAS with the aim of providing an alternative system to any of the original trial members who wished to have a go. We provided Tim with FarmIT 3000 and the GES II Reader.

Adeline was particuarly sceptical that FarmIT 3000 and the GES II reader would perform well enough for Tim. He had been using his own computerised system for years, but the original trail software and equipment had left him feeling particular dis-illusioned with EID, but also with the feeling that if it could work it would be very useful.

It did not take them long to recognise that the FarmIT software and equipment not only worked but could benifit them, now they are fully committed to EID.

Tim commented:
"We have been using computer based recording to improve and expand our commercial flock of breeding ewes for over 10 years. FarmIT 3000 and the GES II Reader has eased the work burden of data collection allowing us to collect more data in less time. The more you improve your stock, the harder it gets to find that extra bit of performance. I feel that the extra data we can now collect so easily could well be the key to the "next level of flock performance"!

Adeline says:
I have always felt the ability to act on accurate individual ewe records were the key to profitability in our commercial flock. With the numbers we have, our computer and its database is the only practical way of manipulating this information. The weak point has always been that the reading of tags out in the sheep unit has been paper-based, time consuming and prone to human error. The GED II EID reader has proved to be the key to rapid and accurate data collection and has made recording and transfer to the office computer quick, simple and error free. Having used it for six months, I am completely sold on it and would recommend it to anybody.
